Information for current parents and pupils
This page is for families of children who currently attend Papplewick School. It explains how the civil litigation relates to the school today, what to do if you have safeguarding concerns, and how to stay informed.
If a child is in immediate danger
If you believe a child is at immediate risk of harm, contact the emergency services straight away by calling 999.
The Old Papplewickian GLO Action Group cannot respond to emergencies and this website is not monitored in real time.
What the litigation is about
Former pupils have brought civil claims about historic abuse and alleged safeguarding failures. These claims relate to past events and are separate from the education and welfare of current pupils.
The litigation does not replace the school's current safeguarding responsibilities. The school remains responsible for protecting pupils and for working with statutory agencies where concerns are raised.
How to raise safeguarding concerns now
If you have concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a current pupil, you can contact:
- The school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) via the school's safeguarding contact route.
- Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) if the concern relates to staff or adults working with children.
- Police if you believe a crime may have been committed or there is an immediate risk to a child.
You can ask any of these organisations how they handle information, confidentiality, and next steps.
Supporting current pupils
If older pupils become aware of the historic litigation through media or family discussions and express worries, you can:
- Listen and reassure them they can talk to you or another trusted adult.
- Keep explanations factual and focused on their safety and wellbeing.
- Remind them how to seek help at school, including speaking to the DSL or a trusted teacher.
If your child shows signs of distress, you may wish to speak to your GP or a relevant support service.
Communication and updates
The Old Papplewickian GLO Action Group shares updates about the civil litigation. The Action Group will not communicate about current operational or safeguarding matters, which are handled solely by the school.
If you have questions about the group action itself, you can register for updates on the sign-up page. Queries about current pupils and current operational processes or safeguarding should be directed to the school.
Data and privacy
Information submitted through this site is handled by the Old Papplewickian GLO Action Group and its solicitors in line with the legal and privacy notice.
The school and safeguarding authorities have their own responsibilities and policies for managing information you share with them. You can ask them how they handle data and confidentiality.
School operations
The civil litigation is separate from day-to-day school operations. If you have questions about teaching, pastoral support, or school procedures, please contact Papplewick School directly through its usual channels.
This information is provided in good faith and cannot cover every situation. It is not legal advice. If you are unsure what to do, you may wish to speak to the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead, the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), the police, or an independent legal adviser.
