For professionals
Guidance for teachers, safeguarding leads, healthcare professionals, and others who may receive disclosures or information connected to Papplewick School and the Old Papplewickian GLO Action Group.
Who this is for
This page is intended for professionals who may be supporting former pupils or their families, including teachers, social workers, safeguarding leads, healthcare providers, and those in advice or advocacy roles.
It summarises the current group litigation against Papplewick, routes for safeguarding concerns, and how to signpost people to further information.
Supporting people who come to you
If someone shares concerns with you, consider:
- Listening without pressing for detailed accounts.
- Explaining available routes, including the police and local authority safeguarding teams for any current risks.
- Offering signposts to specialist support, such as the services listed on the Information for former pupils page.
- Respecting the person's choices about whether to share information with the Old Papplewickian GLO Action Group or its solicitors.
Reporting safeguarding concerns
Follow your organisation's safeguarding policy and statutory duties. If there is an immediate risk of harm, contact the police or the local authority children's services. In an emergency call 999.
Former pupils can choose to report directly to the police. Further detail about reporting options is available on the Information for former pupils page.
Coordinating with the group litigation
The civil claims are being coordinated through the Old Papplewickian GLO Action Group and its instructed solicitors. Professionals do not need to act on behalf of potential claimants, but may be asked for information that supports someone's participation or wellbeing.
If a former pupil wants updates about the litigation, direct them to the sign-up page to register interest. Individuals can also seek independent legal advice if they prefer.
Information requests and liaison
You may receive enquiries from the Old Papplewickian GLO Action Group or its solicitors about historical events at the school. If you have records or relevant knowledge, consider what you can share lawfully in line with your organisation's policies and any professional confidentiality obligations.
If you are unsure how to respond, you can acknowledge the request and seek advice from your legal or safeguarding leads before sharing information.
Confidentiality and privacy
Treat any disclosures with care and avoid sharing identifiable information without a clear safeguarding or legal basis. The Old Papplewickian GLO Action Group aims to protect the privacy of former pupils and families.
